| During
the 1980s, Western Pennsylvania was home to a number of industrial
distributors, their presence made possible by a booming steel industry
and the variety of Westinghouse affiliated businesses in the area.
These established distributors did not cater to many medium and
small-sized machine shops. In
this failure of existing distributors to meet the needs of small shops,
Mary Catherine Motchar, James Clayton, and David Tosh saw an
opportunity. In 1985 they
founded Arbor Industrial Supplies, Inc.. |

With
years of experience working both as a team and for an industrial
distributor, Mary Catherine, James, and David discovered that they
shared a mutual commitment about how customers should be treated and how
a vendor’s products should be sold to customers.

|
Service
to the customer is the key to Arbor Industrial’s success.
“We wanted a firm ‘hands on’ approach and didn’t want to
remain merely a customer or vendor ‘number’ to those we dealt
with,” says Mary Catherine.
|
| The
customer’s best interest is the center point of Arbor’s
service. In today’s
high-tech world it is important to develop favorable working
relationships with both customers and vendors and to do this on a
personal level. With all of
the possible channels of distribution available to customers, Arbor
Industrial consistently focuses on providing quality products and
offering excellent technical service.
This distinguishes them from the competition.

|
Even
with a sales staff proud of its many years of experience, Arbor
Industrial ensures that their enthusiasm for new training is always
attended to. Both inside
and outside sales personnel continually attend courses offered by
vendors to keep abreast of the latest technology.
These courses enable the sales staff to provide better products
and information so that Arbor Industrial’s customers run tooling
more efficiently at a higher profit. |
|
Over
time, Arbor Industrial has changed from a general line distributor to a
specialist in cutting tools. Nevertheless,
if a customer needs any item, Arbor Industrial’s sales staff works
hard to acquire the item or aid the customer in finding a source for it. |
"We
offer our customers a more 'hands on approach'. We want to be more
than just a 'number' to our customers and vendors. We want them to
know that when they call us, they get a 'real' person to help
them."
